Professor Xuanhe Zhao from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT, Cambridge, USA, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt foundation:
Professor Zhao is hosted by Professor Sitti and Professor Keplinger at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart. During his stay in Germany, Professor Zhao intends to collaborate with colleagues at Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and other institutes.
Professor Zhao is an international leader in soft materials and systems. The mission of Zhao Lab at MIT is to advance science and technology on the interfaces between humans and machines for addressing grand societal challenges in health and sustainability. Professor Zhao has pioneered and made breakthroughs in the fields of hydrogels, bioadhesives, soft medical robots, and wearable imaging. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. He is a co-founder of Sanaheal Inc, a startup company translating bioadhesive technology for clinical applications. Over ten patents from Zhao Lab have been licensed by established and startup companies and contributed to widely used medical devices.
