Sabbatical of the recipient will take place in the Physical Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart.
Professor Dr. David H. Gracias received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, representing the amount of EUR 45,000. The award has been granted to him in recognition of his exceptional accomplishments in research and teaching.
Professor Gracias is invited to undertake prolonged periods of research in collaboration with colleagues in Germany. Since 1st May 2018, he has been a guest scholar in the Physical Intelligence Department with Dr. Metin Sitti at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart. The sabbatical in Germany will strengthen the collaboration in science between his home country, the USA, and Germany.
Professor Gracias lectures at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as well as in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He focuses on developing new methods of fabricating nanoscale devices, including 3D devices that self-assemble. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley and did post-doctoral work at Harvard University.
